Sectional terrace I BE, Sterrebeek

This design proposes the creation of a transitional space that mediates between the building and the garden, enhancing both spatial experience and ecological value.

The existing wall, currently functioning as a sectional boundary with a height of 120 cm, will be transformed into a wooden shingled wall. The pattern of the shingles is inspired by the historical stratification of soil layers, subtly expressing the site's geological narrative. In addition to its aesthetic role, the wall will serve as a habitat for nesting bees and other beneficial insects, contributing to local biodiversity.

A redesigned, safer staircase will provide access to the more species-rich garden above. The existing terrace will be reimagined as a greener, more integrated outdoor space, strengthening the connection between architecture and landscape.
